Sudbury Affirms Vote to Expand Board →
THE BOSTON GLOBE:
“Sudbury residents voted Monday to expand the number of members on the Board of Selectmen from three to five, a move that proponents say will help increase representation and transparency in town government.
Now that residents have approved the change, a vote to fill the two additional seats on the board must be held no later than the next annual town election, which is March 2014. A special election could be called in the meantime.
“More representation is going to open things up for Sudbury in a way that serves everybody’s interests,’’ said resident Michael Troiano, who spearheaded the expansion effort.
According to unofficial results from the town clerk’s office, the vote in Monday’s election was 1,936 in favor of expanding the board to 625 against.”
Sudbury Voters Expand Board of Selectmen to Five Members →
“Voters elected Scott Nassa to the Sudbury School Committee Monday and resoundingly OK’d expanding the Board of Selectmen from three members to five.
Nassa narrowly defeated Matthew Barach with 1,257 votes to Barach’s 1,191, according to unofficial election results the Town Clerk’s office released.
A total of 2,681, or 22 percent, of registered voters went to the polls Monday, and many voiced strong support for the single ballot question to create two new selectman seats. The measure passed with 1,936 in favor, 625 opposed.
“Definitely yes,” Adam Neale said after casting his ballot at Town Hall. “I think more representation, how can that be a bad thing?”
Monday’s townwide vote was the final hurdle for the change. The Legislature last fall approved a home rule petition from Town Meeting to add the seats.
